Several Ways to Protect the Environment

Our planet is changing. We need to do something beneficial for a better environment and we all have to do that. Everyone should have the responsibility to keep the environment safe from damage. There are several lists of ways on how to protect our environment. So read it on and do your part :)

POLLUTION
don't drop litter- Litter can end up in rivers and block drains, or in the sea and be eaten by fish. Other than that, some litter will stay around for thousands of years!
-throw your rubbish in the dustbin, not beside the dustbin-

on your bike- Instead of taking the car, get your bicycle out or take the 'shoelace express' which is known as walking.

pleasing product- Many household cleaning products contain harmful chemicals which are washed down the drain. So encourage yourself to buy Eco-friendly products or even make your own from natural substances such as vinegar and lemon juice.

be more alert- If you spot pollution, such as oil on the beach, report it to the local council. If you suspect a stream is polluted, report it to the Environment Agency.

RUBBISH
save trees- Save trees by recycling your own paper. Paper with a clean side can be made into notepads with a simple staple or a hole to tie a piece of string. These are great for doodles and notes. Besides that, if you are buying paper, buy recycled paper.
fashion statement- Give any unwanted clothes to those people who need some help from us such as orphanage or homeless families. By helping them, at least we can reduce any unwanted clothes at our home.

no plastic bag- If you can carry your shopping home without a bag, then carry it home. But then if you can't, why not bring a bag that already have with you.
-Re-using bags is the cool way to shop!-

PLANTS AND TREES: environmental pollution

Air Pollution

trees killed by acid rain

  • Acid rain can kill trees, destroy the leaves of plants, can infiltrate soil by making it unsuitable for purposes of nutrition and habitation.
  • Ozone holes in the upper atmosphere can allow excessive ultraviolet radiation from the sun to enter the Earth causing damage to trees and plants.
  • Ozone in the lower atmosphere can prevent plant respiration by blocking stomata (openings in leaves) and negatively affecting plants’ photosynthesis rates which will stunt plant growth. Ozone can also decay plant cells directly by entering stomata.

 Water Pollution

  • May disrupt photosynthesis in aquatic plants and thus affecting ecosystems that depend on these plants.
  • Aquatic plants may absorb pollutants from water (as their main nutrient source) and pass them up the food chain to consumer animals and humans.
  • Plants may be killed by mud from construction sites as well as bits of wood and leaves, clay and other similar materials.
  • Plants may be killed by herbicides in water; herbicides are chemicals which are most harmful to plants.
Soil Pollution
  • May change plant metabolism and reduce crop yields
  • Trees and plants may absorb soil contaminants and pass them up the food chain

In some cases, no plants will grow in contaminated soil

Human Impact on the Natural Environment

Natural environment is of crucial importance for social and economic life. We use the living world as
  1. a resource for food supply
  2. an energy source
  3. a source for recreation
  4. a major source of medicines
  5. natural resources for industrial products
In this respect the diversity of nature not only offers man a vast power of choice for his current needs and desires. It also enhances the role of nature as a source of solutions for the future needs and challenges of mankind.
